Greyhound Inn at Sydling St Nicholas
The Greyhound Inn at Sydling St Nicholas,DT2 9PD does not want to be known as a gastropub but when I was there it does have that feel of a pub that wishes it was a restaurant.
It is the only pub in this delightful village located about 8 miles north of Dorchester off the A37
to Yeovil road. Here's the map which you can make larger
The pub is located towards the north end of the village on the right hand side of the main street. There is car parking between the pub and it's bed and breakfast accommodation.
There are four areas to the pub to eat in.A restaurant with table cloths, the bar with high stools, more table this time with no table cloths and a conservatory.
Beer is Buttcombe and the cider is Thatchers.A extensive wine list too but as I don't drink wine cannot comment on how good it is.
My friend and I sat it the no table cloths bit.I had the soup of the day as well as a bowel of chips which were much superior to your average pub chip.
For dessert I had a lemon cheesecake which was delicious but very fattening. Here it is:
Service was good though if you are having lunch on a Saturday get there at 12 noon as by the time we left 1:30 it was busy.
On the other side of the car park was the pub accommodation which was all full at the time of my visit so I could not view. There are six rooms priced at £80 to £90 per night depending on size. The price includes breakfast. No dogs.Sorry.
They have iphone/pad/pod docking stations in the room, which is a nice touch.
To book a table or a room call the Inn on 01300 341 303 or email them at firstname.lastname@example.org.
