Dorset Fishing : take the bait and try it

Dorset fishing is good , and for lake fishing I recommend you check out a Fishery Farm at West Stour Gillingham SP8 5SF off the A30 between Shaftesbury and Sherborne.

If you wish to come by train there is a direct service from London Waterloo to Gillingham from where your host Jill Lyle will be happy to collect you by prior arrangement.

The site boasts toilet and shower facilities and they even have WiFi so you can take your laptop and do some work whilst contemplating the lake.

The fishery has three lakes currently open with two more coming up in December 2008 Long & Oak Lake. They vary in size from 2.5 to 4.5 acres.

Woodand Lake is stocked with Mirror Carp & Catfish up to 35lbs.The charge is £9 for a day or night ticket and £17 for 24 hours,3 rods max. This lake is up to 15 feet deep so can be quite a challenge.

Meadow Lake has common & mirror carp up to 26lbs.£7 for the day,£14 for 24 hours, juniors under 12 can also fish here for £5.Juniors must be accompanied by an adult.

The third lake is Rush Lake stocked with carp, golden trench, golden rudd, crucians, bream, rudd roach.A day ticket is £7 per day £5 per evening and £5 for juniors.

There is a well stocked bait shop which is on the left as you drive through the farm, including freezer baits from CC Moors & Mainline.

There is also an excellent butcher's shop on site should you have the urge for some beef or lamb.

Whilst you can camp by the lake, a camping and caravan site is also being developed offering power and water hook up,toilets, showers and Wifi.

So for great Dorset fishing, and all mod cons, I can think of no better place.
