Dorset camping:reduce your carbon footprint.

durdle door park holiday

Dorset camping sites are everywhere and I start off with one close to a famous natural feature,Durdle Door.

Durdle Door Holiday Park caters not just for camping but also campervans, caravans and caravan holiday homes. It is located near Lulworth Cove BH20 5PU phone 01929 400200

The park has three areas dedicated to camping,Abbeyfield,Eypeside and a wooded area suited for smaller tents.

Abbeyfield has preallocated pitches with access to 16amp electric hook up,hot water, and grey waste water hook up.

The Eypeside area is an open field with water points, toilets showers and dishwashing facilities.

The rest of the site is occupied by privately owned caravan holiday homes some of which can be leased on a short term basis through the site's letting office.

The site has a bar and restaurant, laundry, gas bottle exchange,a shop, showers and toilets. There is a woodland play area for children.

Tariffs for camping start at £10 in March rising to £20 in high summer, though rates are higher over holiday periods such as Easter and August Bank Holiday.

Rates are higher again if you want a premium pitch with electric and water hook up.You can make credit card bookings on 01929 400 200.

The site forms a good base to explore the coastline around Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door as well as going further along the South West Coast Path.Inland Lulworth Castle is about 5 miles away, with an animal farm, children's playground, and many summer events held including a jousting tournament during July and August.

This is a big site catering for the most part to owner occupier caravans. The camping bit is quite small in comparison.

So if its isolation you want don't come here. But it does boast great facilities and it is right on top of two major tourist attractions in Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door For more information go to Lulworth.com

If you want to be close to Weymouth for the 2012 Games then consider camping at Osmington. There are two camps there,go here for more information.

Ulwell Cottage Caravan Park is located near Swanage on the Isle of Purbeck and is an ideal base for exploring the eastern end of the Jurassic Coast

Coking Farm Fishery Gillingham is located to the west of Shaftesbury and south of Gillingham. This site is part of a fishery, has wifi, and does not allow children,so if it's peace and quiet you want in north Dorset then go here.

Puncknowle is a beautiful Dorset village off the B3157 between Abbotsbury and Burton Bradstock. Here you will find a small camp site which whilst basic is affordable and keeps you away from the big crowds of the holiday park sites.
