Dorset boasts the cleanest multi award winning beaches in the UK.

Dorset has some amazing shoreline for you to enjoy.Which one to choose depends on what you want from a beach. If it is fine white sand and easy access to car parks and somewhere to buy food and drink, then you would be better in sticking to the area from Christchurch to Swanage.

boscombe beach

Here the sand is excellent and the beaches can be easily reached. However you will pay the price of being surrounded by loads of other people who want the same thing.

Sandbanks is well known for it's expensive real estate and is home to many celebrities sporting stars and well lots of rich people.

This is probably the most well known beach on the south coast and is often in the news. Recently a Russian billionaire bought a huge house which is only five years old and plans to knock it down and build something even bigger.

To the east of Sandbanks are the chines which are like little valleys some dry some with a stream which run down to the sea. These form a focal point for beach access between Sandbanks Bournemouth and Bosombe to the east.

If wildlife is of more appeal then check out Chesil Beach which hosts some rare species.Chesil forms part of the World Heritage listed Jurassic Coast which is considered by UNESCO to represent a major part of earth's history.

To move along this coast is to move through time. You can spend days here exploring the shore as it reveals to you 185 million years of life on earth.

As you move past Studland Bay the coast changes with dramatic cliffs towering over remote beaches. Here the beaches are less popular with the notable exception of Swanage a sandy beach which always gets good ratings. The rest are made up of shingle rather than sand. Having said that you don't get the crowds,so if that is your cup of tea try these out:

Lulworth Cove

Durdle Door

Warbarrow Bay

Ringstead

Chesil Beach

Burton Bradstock

These are all on the Jurassic Coast between Studland Bay and the border with Devon. They don't offer fine sand but they do offer a dramatic setting.

So check them all out.You won't be disappointed.
